Audi To Sponsor Presidential Inauguration Webcasts

The exclusive sponsor of the streaming broadcasts of President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration speech on top news sites such as ABC, CBS and NBC will be Audi as reported by Autonews.com. In addition to the January 20th streaming broadcasts online, Audi will sponsor other webcasts starting today as they kick off LIVE events at the Lincoln Memorial today.

Audi plans to reach more than 8.6 million viewers with inserts during the streaming webcasts which "showcases many of the innovations and advancements that demonstrate Audi's inherent spirit of progress."

Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen said in a release, "Regardless of political preferences, the inauguration represents a unique moment of progress. That's why we wanted to share this experience and begin a conversation about innovation, technology and the path ahead."

Overall, Audi says the web streaming sponsorship should reach more than 30 million people total. Major kudos for Audi on this one and God Bless America!

Audi at Detroit Auto Show 2009

Audi R8

We’re continuing the same type of auto show coverage that we started and provided during the L.A Auto Show. Since we’re still a BMW blog, we won’t be posting photos of all the cars displayed at shows, but rather BMW’s competitors or any exotic and interesting concepts.

So today, we will start with Audi. A couple of days ago, we posted what I believe to be an amazing concept, the Sportback or the future A7 design. Of course, it received mixed reviews, some people totally digging their design trend, while others not having much faith in the Ingolstadt based carmaker.

Beside all the usual A4, A5 or Q7 models displayed at the previous auto shows, this time, we have the opportunity to see a couple of premiers: the already mentioned Sportback Concept and the new Audi R8 5.2 FSI V10.

Audi R8 V10

The new 525 hp engine has been highly expected by all the Audi fans who are looking for a speed thrill. A top speed of 196 mph and 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds, should give them all the adrenaline needed.

Not many changes in design when compared to the previous V8 model, just dual exhaust outlets, wider side air intakes and unique LED headlights and rear diffuser.

Price and availability? Next year and $180,000.

It’s a shame that us, the BMW fans, don’t have a similar choice of a high-end supercar. CS Concept anyone?

REVIEW: Audi & NFL Films find Truth in 24

With most sports documentaries, you know how the story's going to end before you even sit down. That knowledge doesn't make Truth in 24 any less fascinating, dramatic, or exciting. The story of Audi's 2008 effort at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Truth in 24 provides a very rare glimpse behind the scenes as Audi Motorsport prepares for, competes in, and ultimately wins the world's most famous endurance race. Audi went to NFL Films to make the movie, and director Keith Crossrow has applied that outfit's uniquely compelling storytelling ability to motor racing -- a sport he was largely unfamiliar with by his own admission. The results, fortunately, make for one Hell of a watch.

Detroit Auto Show: Audi A7 Sportback Gallery

a7main Detroit Auto Show: Audi A7 Sportback Gallery

Its true Mr. Arnold’s Volvo Concept is hot as can be, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Audi’s A7 Sportback concept. Our own Dr. Lieberman has already dished up the goods on this slick ride, but there’s nothing better than in-the-flesh-photos. Maybe it’s because I’ve got a soft spot for mega-sized hatches and get weak-kneed over fuel-stingy diesels, but this glass-topped leviathan is right up my alley. Powered by the same 3.0-liter turbo diesel found in the Q7 we piloted across the west, there’s no doubt about this car’s ability to scoot. Plus, thanks to that bitchin hatch, there’s gobs of room out back. Who knows how much of this awesome will translate to the production version. Stay tuned for more info. [Photos by Dave Everest]

Audi Q5 Hybrid coming to the U.S. in late 2010

The on and off again reports of an Audi Q5 hybrid for the U.S. are on again today after Wolfgang Hatz, head of powertrain development for Volkswagen, said that the hybrid Q5 will come to the U.S. in late 2010. Speaking at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show yesterday, Hatz said that in order to stay competitive, Audi will have to offer the Q5 Hybrid to compete with rivals such as the Lexus RX 400h. BMW is also planning a hybrid version of the X6 for the U.S. later this year.

However, echoing previous reports, Hatz said that he believes diesel has a greater potential.

"If you look at what you have to spend to get the advantage of the hybrid and what you have to spend on other technologies like diesel, the diesel is much more cost-effective," Hatz said. "We have to do hybrids in order to show people that we are able to do them."

The gasoline powered Audi Q5 will arrive on U.S roads March.
