At the 2008 Essen Motor Show Audi unveiled its new GT3 race version of the Audi R8 LMS as a part of its three pillars of Audi Motorsport. The new 500-hp plus horsepower Audi R8 LMS will go on sale for 262,000 Euros ($332,425 USD) as the first racing sports car developed by Audi for customer use. The Audi R8 LMS will be on the race track during the 2009 season. Up to eight customers will compete in different European series and in the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring.
